I was looking to buy this Broadway musical soundtrack before seeing the play.I thought the CD would not arrive before the performance. How pleasantly surprise was i to receive it just days later.I'm very pleased with the service I got,but extremely happier for this excellent soundtrack.
Her character is not only convincing but we all feel that we have an Abuela Claudia in the family. It is a true joy seeing this play on stage and listening to its music. In the Heights offers outstanding performances within a plot that allows an honest representation of one of New York's diverse faces: the latinos.Lin-Manuel Miranda has managed to bring to life the day-to-day reality of individuals that do come to the States pursuing the American Dream. It is easy to observe the invisible, but always-present ties, to their own cultures.Hats off to the amazing performance delivered by Olga Merediz, everyone's grandmother without real grandchildren of her own. In time, it will be a classic and will open doors to other cultural groups to represent themselves. Bravo.
Absolutely LOVE this CD. Can't wait to see it live. This was the only place I could find it at a decent price too.
The story line is one that many people can relate to and the lyrics are pretty impactful. I saw this show in NY a month ago and can't stop playing the soundtrack. The soundtrack is very different from anything I've heard in that it is a hip hop musical. If you see the show, the dance choreography to the music is amazing. In addition, the musical gives a shout out to Stanford University.
The soundtrack does not disappoint; the talent and energy of the cast shines through in each track. I saw the show in March 2009 and thoroughly enjoyed it, even from the nosebleed seats. It was easy to see why In the Heights won the Tony for best musical. The band is excellent as well and really drives home the Latin feel. If you liked the show or enjoy showtunes in general I think you will enjoy this CD.
